About My work

I take great care in my work. The elements that go into each piece are chosen via hours perusing listings online that offer vintage chains, rare and unusual stones, interesting cuts of stones, deadstock bits and bobs such as vintage military laundry pins, little escutcheon plates, and fun necklace clasps. For my bone pieces, I work with vendors in Montana, the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii who clean and process bone acquired from scavenging, and other as-ethical-as-possible resources. Though I also find my elements in person, I’ve found that my resources are so limited that way, and I never want any of my pieces to look like something you could find in any run of the mill store. Nearly all of my pieces, save for my simple pendants, are unique and never duplicated perfectly.

It is also vital to me that my pieces last. I make sure that every wire-wrapped stone is secure, every jump ring is closed neatly, and that my pieces can be worn in whatever way my clientele wants to wear them, outside of swimming and bathing, which are a very quick way to make a piece start to break down. Even my daintier pieces are made as sturdy as they can be.

This is all why those who find my work tend to keep buying my pieces. Some have been buying from me for the last decade, often getting up to two or three dozen pieces per year, as well as gifting pieces to their loved ones. While I know that my pieces are not for everyone (nor should they be!), the people they are for, they’re really, really for. My clients’ styles range from boho to goth to more conservative and/or eclectic professionals, and I pride myself on making something that can appeal to such a broad audience. The look on people’s faces when they find “their” piece is unmatched!

About you

I love to work with stores who value my time as much as I will value yours. You will always be able to get into contact with me with questions and concerns, and I will regularly check in with you regarding sales and adding new inventory. I expect the stores I work with to have an active social media presence, where they will promote my pieces with equanimity to other brands they have, and I will always guide my customers to your shops as well. My most successful retail relationships have been going for nearly as long as I have been making jewelry—which I started doing in 2013. If all of this sounds great to you, please get in touch with me!

How Would this work?

I prefer wholesale relationships, because then I know you will work just as hard to sell my pieces as I did to make them. But, I understand that that is not always possible, and some of my best stores have done consignment with me from the start.

Since so many pieces are one of a kind, it is impossible for me to create a line sheet, so if you are interested in specific styles, we can work easily that way. We can do orders for x number of “simple pendants” in various price points, or “antler tip earrings w/ and w/o stone,” or “bold statement necklaces,” and so on. I would love to work with you on the basis of a certain colorway to go along with a clothing collection or season, or to create pieces using specific stones that you think your clients will love. You can also buy directly from my existing inventory! Just let me know how you’d like to do it and we can figure out what works best for both of us.

I believe in quality, small batch, unique, and totally one of a kind pieces for my brand, and that’s how I want to keep it—I am never going to be able to give you Made In China prices, please understand that!

If all of this sounds right up your alley, please email me! You can get in touch at sarah@vugjewels.com, and I will get back to you within 3-5 business days.
