These pieces have been sitting on my desk since August. I just haven't been able to find the...hope? Joy? I need to make new jewelry. So I've focused on vintage goods instead.
But now I'm angry. Angry for so many reasons. My state is under siege by its own government. To that point, there's a bigger collection I've had in mind for years, that I've put to the backburner over and over again because it wasn't the right time. Now it's the right time, and there will be somewhere for this anger to go. So I finished these pieces, realizing half way through that they're mourning jewelry. Lily of the valley, a common Victorian funerary flower. Ancient roman glass, the remnants of a fallen empire. Blood red garnet.
I wanted a name for this mini collection that spoke to the crimes ICE is committing. Duelo. Spanish for mourning, it also means duel. Perfect.
