1983 "KANSAS" Flat Earth Pottery Serving Dish by Michael Schlyer

1983 "KANSAS" Flat Earth Pottery Serving Dish by Michael Schlyer

$60.00

Researching this, I found it’s by a pretty well-known potter from Kansas, Michael Schlyer. “Michael Schlyer is a ceramic artist from Kansas, United States. He earned a BFA at the University of New Mexico and an MFA at Fort Hays State University. He taught high school art for ten years and was an Artist in Residence for the Wichita Public Schools. He is the owner of Flat Earth Clay Works and has been a practicing potter and sculptor for over 40 years. Michael has shown his work throughout the United States and has pieces in the permanent collections of the Wichita Art Museum, the Corning Museum in New York, the Hutchinson Art Center, and Disney World in Orlando, Florida.”

This stoneware serving dish would also make a fine catchall tray, stamped with “KANSAS” inside the bowl, featuring a partial white spotted glaze. Reads “Flat Earth [copyright] 1983” on the bottom. In perfect condition, the dish measures 8.75” across, and is 1.5” deep.
